Lighting Technology

November 23 - December 14 2019

A progressive series with community partner and lighting professional Laura Penney.


Part I (3 hours) 

This class will be Lighting 101 in a basic overview of lighting fixtures and related equipment, lighting control, and lighting design for various purposes. The students will have the opportunity to learn some aspects of lighting control and create their own lighting cues.

Part II (3 hours) 

This class will provide an overview of control systems, electrical distribution, and electrical troubleshooting. This is will include cabling, connecting devices, electrical safety, using the board, fuses, patching, cable building, and introduction to the multi-meter.

Part III (3 hours) 

This class will include a brief review of the characteristics of light, functions of lighting, terminology, and instrumentation. The process of design conceptualization will also be explored in lighting for various purposes.
